Development Design Department

Once a concept idea has been approved it is time to bridge the gap from the concept stage to the final art. This department will take your approved concept, clean up any rough or problem areas and work out all of the intricate details. Here you will find some of our most talented Artists and Draftspeople. They know exactly what it takes to put your idea together so that it can be translated into a finished product. This is a vital step for any product prior to having the prototype created. The people on our Development Design Team have created products for many companies such as Disney, Warner Bros, Paramount, MGM, Buena Vista, Mattel, DreamWorks, Pixar, Fisher-Price, Hasbro and MGA (the Bratz). This department can easily assist you with services such as character turn-around art, complex CAD drawings, accessory design, exquisite fabric design with repeat patterns, and much, much more. Please refer to our service list on the left side of this page. Turning your concept over to our Development Design Department will give your product a big head start in today's competitive market place.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the difference between Concept and Development Design?
Concept work is done during the initial idea stage of a product. Once an idea has been approved, Development Design will turn that idea into something that can actually be manufactured. This phase would include such actions as: executing precision control drawings; determining correct color palettes; designing labels and fabrics; creating style guides; etc. Whereas, the Concept Department is mostly concerned with the broad, general concept of a product, Development Design works out the intricate details necessary to the construction of the first model. Having these details precisely defined can save thousands of dollars during the model making and manufacturing stages.

What is a “style guide”?
A style guide includes: all of the owner approved graphics, photography, color palettes, typefaces, package design, promotion for print, web, and all other media related to the production and promotion of your product. A product style guide preserves all the elements of and related to the product as intended by it’s creator.

What are “turn-a-rounds”?
Turn-a-rounds are drawings of a character from 3 or more views. These drawings help in digital rendering or hand sculpting of 3D characters.

What is a “CAD drawing”?
CAD is an acronym for Computer Aided Design. A CAD drawing is done from a computer software program that allows a product to be seen in 3 dimensions so that it can be more easily manufactured.
