Manufacturing Department

After the product development process has been completed, the manufacturer that produces your product must do an excellent job for a competitive price. The ASAP Manufacturing Department has been created to ensure that our customers receive plenty of “TLC” during the manufacturing process. With offices strategically located in China, we are able to assist U.S. manufacturers, retailers, and wholesalers with their manufacturing and importation of products from China. Our on-site ASAP management team has over 30 years of U.S. retail management experience and 15 years of Asian product sourcing and development experience. We have the management skills, knowledge and resources to help companies optimize production capability and increase bottom line profits. How can outsourcing products in China benefit my company?
Each year, more and more U.S. companies are transporting their supply chains to China in order to become more competitive in today’s global marketplace. Outsourcing in China not only allows U.S. companies to reduce costs but also allows them to optimize production capabilities and foster idea sharing in product innovation. This saves money for the company and provides a different avenue for utilizing sales & marketing personnel, warehouse staff and facilities.

How long is the usual production cycle from the time that a product prototype is received at the factory to the time that it is shipped back to the U.S. and is ready to be picked up at a US harbor?
If the product is going to be manunfactured using a steel mold the time table would be as follows:

  • 45 to 60 days from receipt of the original prototype to prepare the mold. This would include making first samples and having them sent back to be approved by you and your company, as well as making any needed adjustments to the steel mold.
  • 14 to 21 days for material preparation and production.
  • 4 weeks to be shipped from Asia to the U.S.
To ensure your product arrives in the U.S. on time, plan on a total of 4 to 5 months from receipt of the model to final arrival at a U.S. harbor.

If the product is going to be manufactured using a rubber mold, the time table would be as follows:
  • 20 to 30 days from receipt of the original prototype to prepare the mold. This would include making first samples and having them sent back to be approved by you and your company, as well as making any needed adjustments to the steel mold.
  • 14 to 21 days for material preparation and production.
  • 4 weeks to be shipped from Asia to the U.S.
To ensure your product arrives in the U.S. on time, plan on a total of 3 to 4 months from receipt of the model to final arrival at a U.S. harbor.

What are the advantages of having our manufacturing handled by ASAP compared to setting up our own manufacturing deals in China?
One only has to listen to the many horror stories resulting from people who were not fully versed on the potential hazards of purchasing direct from overseas factories. It can be very costly when production or shipping goes haywire. Some of the key advantages of using our ASAP manufacturing team are:
  • Having a team of manufacturing experts working for you who understand the Asian culture & language, and know how to negotiate manufacturing deals that will give you the best cost for the quality of product required.
  • Having merchandise inspectors who are independent of the factory’s manufacturing work force, who provide:
    • Follow up on the completion of the required, detailed product sample through the product development stage.
    • Setting up an initial, realistic timeline with the factories for completion and shipment of the approved product.
    • Pushing factories to stay on the timeline to ensure your product shipments arrive on or before your deadline.
    • Constant monitoring of the factory’s in-line quality assurance, with routine quality control spot checks to eliminate the possibilities of the actual product not matching your approved sample.
    • The final required AQL shipping inspection of the product and its packing.
  • Not having to hop on a plane to make rushed, overseas trips when something, 8,000 miles away, is not going according to plan.
  • Having peace of mind, knowing that your production will have the follow up required to eliminate any possibility of having a “problem shipment” resulting from rushed production.
What percentage of the cost of manufacturing do we need to pay ASAP in order to begin the manufacturing process?
Cost of required molds require 50% paid to the factory prior to commencement of mold making. The balance of the mold cost must be deposited with ASAP and available for payment once the molds are completed.

At time of order placement, an irrevocable Letter of Credit (L/C) is to be issued by the buyer and received by the factory prior to the beginning of material preparation.

What quantities of product would our company need to have manufactured for it to be worth our while to have them produced by ASAP in China?
Ideally, a minimum order would fill a container that is 40’ X____ X____, or ______cubic feet. A container could contain 2 or 3 SKUs of different products produced from the same factory, or factories that are close to each other. Quantity would depend upon the size of the products that would fill a container. Obviously, the larger the product the less quantity would be needed to be able to fill a container. An exception to this would be smaller products like jewelry or other items that don’t normally fill containers. Other arrangements would need to be made for very small products. It is best to work, ahead of time, how many completed products will fit into a container. Then, figure out the profit-per-container in order to determine if having your product or products produced in China would be cost effective and thus profitable.
